22. WORLD MINING CONGRESS ISTANBUL

Distinguished Delegates and Colleagues,

The Organizing Committee of 22.World Mining Congress (NMC) acting under the patronage of Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey is proud to host the prestigous Congress and EXPO in Istanbul which is the only city in the World founded on two continents where Europe and Asia meet at the Bosphorous.

On behalf of myself and the Organizing Committee I am pleased to welcome all participating scientists, intellectuals, technocrats and experts in the field of Mining from all over the World. This is the second time that Turkey is again entrusted with an highly esteemed task, first one (10 th WMC) was in Istanbul thirty two years ago in 1979. I am sure those who attended 10.WMC in Istanbul will have the chance to look back and refresh their memories at this occassion. I was one of the lucky ones to attend and enjoy Congress events in 1979.

The presentation of Technical papers on the General Theme of “Innovations and Challenges in Mining” will allow World Mining Professionals to exchange ideas in a very lively and constructive atmosphere.

This Congress and EXPO, I am sure , will also provide prominent opportunity to the participants in respect to sharing their experiences and establishing new contacts and business relationships.

We believe that the ultimate aim of this Congress and forthcoming World Mining Congresses should preferably be;

• To adopt latest technical innovations,
• To find solutions to improving productivity and efficiency,
• To enchance product quality,
• To reduce production costs,
• To perpetuate sustainable production,
• To create environmentally sound operations,

Let me end my speech by restating my conviction that the exploitation of natural resources of a country for the benefit of mankind deserve extensive attention and could be used as an effective tool for further development of the country.

Taking this opportunity, I duly thank all sponsors, participants, supporting and contributing members of private and public companies and institutions.
